Selah

Stop and Think Original Poetry by Sherrie Yvette

There are times in life when our hearts cry, our worlds spin, we take in what surrounds us and then we try to make sense of it; all the while my spirit speaks and I scribe poetry! It has been my prayer that Selah will be a catalyst for personal growth by inspiring its readers to reflect upon life's nuances. Selah is more than a book that holds some lady's poetry and pages for journal entries but also a teaching tool through the incorporation of Biblical Scriptures and a special place for self-reflection.

Each stanza will take you on a personal journey and maybe even an emotional roller coaster that drops you off where truth always remains constant…the word of God.

Please know that I appreciate you taking time to Selah with me! Your questions, comments and testimonies are very welcome. Read more...

Story behind Spoken Words for You

Spoken Words for You logo

The purpose of my life on Earth is to “Reach Children by the Masses,” one way I have been gifted to do this is through the use of the arts, more specifically, poetry. So when I found myself bedridden in 2012 after sustaining injuries as a result of a car accident I was in disbelief that God would allow this mission to be halted. I’d lost confidence in my ability to deliver words of wisdom given to me by the Holy Spirit in the form of poetry. My head throbbed, ears rung continuously and my concentration and ability to attend to task felt like that of a two year old. Read more…

Story behind Best of Me

Best of Me logo

I come from a clan of 7 children. My mother gave birth to 4 gorgeous girls all different and unique in their own way. There’s a boy amongst all of the strong, independent, opinionated girls. As a single mother she was often occupied with the ways of the world; finding and keeping work, cooking healthy dinners, and making sure our grades were up to par along with balancing life and all its mishaps. Out of the bunch, my father, was solely my father. He helped create me when my mother was in high school and then he went off to college. Parenting me, a feisty, bossy, stubborn young girl from afar was no easy challenge. As a military man, he spent what felt like as a teen, countless years overseas serving in the United States Air Force, later marrying and fathering 2 more children whom I love dearly. Read more…

Story behind Selah

I’ve been writing poetry since I was a little girl. As an adult I flip through the pages of my journals and they are filled with my thoughts, feelings, nuggets of wisdom, life-changing events, dreams and POEMS! I like to say that I think in poetic verse! I know that most of the poetry I write now, at this stage of my life is not meant to sit on the pages of my journals or any other book for that matter because it’s truly a gift from God. So why publish a book? Read more…

  • I think Best of Me was about yourself. What I mean by that is that I think that it helps you accomplish your goals and or helps you figure out what your goals are. Also, it is where you can come and just be yourself. Best of Me means to me that you can be yourself. It means that if is ok to be yourself. You should also be able to accomplish your goals. Also you can let out all of your emotions.

  • “In the “Best of Me” program I have learned that I should always say something good to someone so that they can feel better. While doing the community service project and picking up the baby clothes it gave me a big smile on my face thinking these homeless kids are going to be saved and the people that get these are going to be blessed. And the last thing I learned is to think about school not babies and my “ex-wife.” :)

About Sherrie Yvette

You will find me, Sherrie Yvette to be an inquisitive woman who has finally learned to embrace her God given talents to lead others to the kingdom of God. The most joyous occasion of each of my days is mothering an amazing little girl who loves to read, write and share poetry. Where we are from she is known as, "Little Poet!"

For most of my life I have been a quiet observer and have always been challenged to think deeper than what has been presented to me. Naturally, I challenge others to do the same. As a teacher for over 7 years, I’ve been afforded the opportunity to nurture the souls of many young people. It is my belief that reaching children by the masses is my life’s purpose and one way in which I fulfill my purpose is through the use of poetry. Through this calling I birthed two “babies” creatively titled, Best of Me and Spoken Words for You.

Best of Me is a character education program that empowers the hearts of our youth to be resilient in this ever-changing society and encourages them to be who God has called them to be. Spoken Words for You is an open mic that was designed with the vision of giving the youth a platform to speak all with the goal of “igniting neurons to spark change.”

Poetry is not just poetry for me. Poetry is my ministry; ministry is getting people to come to know, love and develop a relationship with Christ. It is impossible to count the number of people who have been under the sound of my voice therefore, I don’t take the privilege lightly. My poetic pieces cover a wide variety of topics and experiences and I am most certain that everyone who encounters my poetry will find at least one thing that they can latch onto and take with them on this journey called life.

Please know that MY ART IS RESTRICTED. It is restricted to what the Holy Spirit leads me to scribe and then speak. It is only under His direction that I can be certain that the words both written and spoken do, in fact carry the power to influence others or at the very least to STOP and THINK .

OTHER LANGUAGE TO BE CONSIDERED FOR WEBSITE Everyone is invited to attend the SPOKEN WORDS for YOU Open Mic series in Pemberton, which allows individuals of ALL ages to showcase their gifts and talents. The Open Mic features poets, musicians and other artist of many sorts all with the purpose of inspiring one to be empowered through the use of words and the arts.
